چکیده

In a previous paper (Environ. Ecol. Stat. 5 (1998) 29.) we presented an entropy-based approach to spatial sampling design in a state-space model framework. We now address the problem of sensitivity of optimal designs with respect to the configuration of the set of potential observation sites considered, as well as to the model specifications. The latter involve both the spatial dependence structure of the variable of interest and its relationship with the observable variable. To analyze several aspects related to this problem, we have developed an extensive empirical study, from which we conclude the critical influence that the a priori selection of candidate observation sites can have on the final sampling designs for different situations. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Sensitivity Analysis of Spatial Sampling Designs for Optimal Prediction

In spatial statistic, the data analyzed which is correlated and this correlation is due to their locations in the studied region. Such correlation that is related to distance between observations is called spatial correlation. Usually in spatial data analysis, the prediction of the amount of uncertain quantity in arbitrary 4locations of the area is considered according to attained observations ...

Image recovery from irregularly located spectral samples

Recovery of magnetic resonance images from irregular sampling sets is investigated from the point of view of moment discretization of the Fredholm equation of the first kind. The limited spatial extent of the object is known a priori and the sampling schemes considered each have mean density lower than that imposed by the Nyquist limit. The recovery formula obtained has the same form as a stand...

A Comparative Study of Performance of Adaptive Web Sampling and General Inverse Adaptive Sampling in Estimating Olive Production in Iran

Nowadays, there is an increasing use of sampling methods in network and spatial populations. Although the most common link-tracing designs such as adaptive cluster sampling and snowball sampling have advantages over conventional sampling designs such as simple random sampling and cluster sampling, these designs still present many drawbacks. Adaptive web sampling is a new link-tracing design tha...

Influence of temporal discretization schemes on formant frequencies and bandwidths in time domain simulations of the vocal tract system

A time domain simulation of acoustic propagation in the vocal tract requires the spatial and temporal discretization of the equations of motion and continuity. In the classic transmission line model of the vocal tract with lumped elements, the spatial discretization is provided by the piece-wise constant area function. The temporal finitedifference approximation of the differential equations ca...

Some a Priori Error Estimates for Finite Element Approximations of Elliptic and Parabolic Linear Stochastic Partial Differential Equations

We study some theoretical aspects of Legendre polynomial chaos based finite element approximations of elliptic and parabolic linear stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) and provide a priori error estimates in tensor product Sobolev spaces that hold under appropriate regularity assumptions. Our analysis takes place in the setting of finitedimensional noise, where the SPDE coefficien...
